The Circle of Serbian Sisters Convention
Novi Kalenic Manastir Svetog Save ![]() On the 29th of March, 2008, the Circle of Serbian Sisters, with the holy liturgy read by Bishop Irinej, commenced the convention held every two years. The president and delegates of each local circle of Serbian sisters within the Australian and New Zealand Diocese were invited to attend. This year we were pleasantly surprised as monk Serafim was blessed with the title of Jero-Djakon. Father Serafim came to us from Cleveland, the hometown of our Bishop Irinej, and will be joining the parish at New Kalenic Monastery in Australia. May God watch over him. After lunch, the Bishop opened the convention by thanking the sisters for their hard work and efforts. The Sisters, with the blessing of Bishop Irinej, chose Father Nenad to chair the meeting. Everything went smoothly and according to plan. All issues were welcomed and answers were given to most questions that were asked. Most topics this year were related to the Children’s camp, and in the future, the work of the Circle of Serbian sisters will be focused on the improvement of conditions and quality in all aspects of community life. It was very impressive and honouring to see our younger sisters participating and taking an active role in the work of the Circle of Serbian Sisters. A new head committee was chosen, with female president Dusanka Timotic, who the sisters have voted in three times now, proving the importance of her contribution. Aside from the children’s camp, the sisters will be helping out with the youth festival and the church’s saint’s day, celebrating ‘Jasenovacke Mucenike’ and their own saint’s day- ‘Velika Gospojina’. If an occasion does arise, for example a visit from one of our Bishops or other holy figures, the sisters are always there to prepare a traditional welcoming. The biggest task for the moment is organizing the children’s camp. Our sisters have already begun this process and we hope to finalize plans very soon.
